Many girls in rural Morocco don’t get to continue their education after 6th grade. In my village in the High Atlas Mountains, the closest high school is 12 miles away. Most parents do not want to send their daughters away from home because they believe it’s unsafe, and they also do not have easy access to transportation. Education For All Morocco offers safe boarding houses where girls can stay through their high school journey.

Girls stay at a boarding house for 6 years. They may visit their family on weekends and holidays, if transportation is available. Education For All Morocco built six boarding houses, which house a total of250 girls. Mike McHugo, an English humanitarian,  founded EFA Morocco in 2007. Two of my cousins had the opportunity to live in an EFA house while attending high school. Another cousin just started seventh grade and also lives in an EFA Morocco house. Parents and girls make many sacrifices to continue higher education. I have visited two of the houses when I stopped by to see my cousins. The house mothers treated the girls like their own daughters.  They made sure they ate nutritious meals and had access to technology for their studies. I trust EFA Morocco very much. EFA Morocco also invites women from all over the world to share their inspiring stories with the girls so they may  create a new perspective. EFA Morocco works to increase girls' access to higher education, which leads to brighter futures. Many girls graduate with a Bachelor’s degree, some obtain a Masters degree.
